Local President Candidate Tyler Patterson:
Tyler has served as the modal Vice President for PHMSA since it joined the Local in May of 2013. He is also now currently serving as the Chief Steward for Local 3313. As the PHMSA VP, Tyler served as the Chief Negotiator for the Interim Labor Management Agreement and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. He was chosen by Local 3313 as one of its delegates to the 2014 District 14 Caucus where he was selected by the Caucus to serve as the Caucus and Election Committee Chair. Tyler is a licensed attorney, a veteran, and former middle school teacher. He has volunteered in local DC schools, teaching Constitutional law to area high school students. He is a big proponent of education, domestic violence awareness, public interest law, civil rights, and the freedom of speech.
Executive Vice President Candidate Zakina Brooker:
Zakina is currently serving as the Modal Vice President for OST. She oversaw the merging of RITA employees into the bargaining unit and was the primary Local representative during the negotiation of OST's new Collective Bargaining Agreement, updating and vastly improving a contract that had dated back to the 1970s. Zakina is a big proponent of treating every member with respect and professionalism, understanding that the way she represents her employees reflects on the entire union. It is these values which have led OST's unit to feature the most new dues-paying members since January 2014.
Treasurer Candidate Oranous Tavoosi:
Oranous has been an accountant since 1984. She has a degree in finance and accounting and a masters in information technology. She served as a controller for a
nonprofit organization for seven years. She also owned her own tax and accounting firm for 12 years. When she heard that the Treasurer position at the Local was vacant, she volunteered to assist. She was appointed by the Executive Board to serve as Treasurer in the Fall of 2014. Oranous advocates for healthy and transparent budget practices, increased member services, and strong financial planning.
