Unions should operate as a reflection of its values: collective action, accountability, transparency, selflessness, and a sense of community. We are and always should be the truest and most powerful voice of the working class. We stand for each other because alone we are vulnerable to greed, corruption, racism, sexism, exploitation, ignorance, and the shifting of political winds. Unions are the bulwark against all of these forces because any one of them can deny us the opportunity to achieve our dreams in life.
Our values are American values. We demand opportunities for professional growth. We demand promotions we have earned, a fair rating, sensible expectations, the benefits we have bargained for, and the respect we deserve. We expect our right to choose our own work-life balance to be acknowledged. We are here to serve the American people, not management.
Unions are a service organization. That means that the higher the position, the greater the responsibility. Our oaths of office are not the keys to power. They are ties to obligation - obligations to the Federal worker, to Union officers, and to the families of the bargaining unit employees we swear to represent.
The job of the Executive Board is to be the shepherds of the collective effort to protect and speak for our bargaining unit. We pledge to support, to inform, to delegate, to promote, and to praise. Our job is to put union officers and Federal workers in a position to be the best they can be, to motivate them, and to give them the tools they need to shine.
Our mantra is simple: if you take care of your people, they will take care of you. Be our voice on election day and we will be your voice for the next three years.
