Our First 100 Days: District-Wide Initiatives

1. Joint Happy Hours with other Locals:
  • District 14 is comprised of nearly all the AFGE Locals in the District of Columbia. Unlike other Districts, we do not have to travel hundreds of miles to see all the sister Locals in our District. All of these Locals contain Union brothers and sisters, brimming with ideas to face all of the problems common among Federal workers. Yet we almost never get to meet any of them.
  • In our first 100 days, we will schedule the first of what we hope will be many happy hours with other Locals in District 14.
2. Local Attendance of Council 1 Meetings:
  • In the AFGE organization, there are councils that comprise Locals that share specific interests. For example, the national collection of Locals within HUD are represented by Council 222. One of the more influential councils in AFGE because it represents a collection of DC Locals is AFGE Council 1.
  • Council 1 meetings deal with many of the District 14 level issues, issues that may be of interest to our Local. We have never had a regular presence at these meetings. Within our first 100 days, that will change. Our representative to these meetings will make regular reports back to the Executive Board and our membership. Ultimately, this will help make the Local much more informed and influential in dealing with some of the large issues governing Federal workers.
